Join Our Editorial Team
Are you an expert legal writer, editor, or content manager with a JD or equivalent?
Would you like to join our on-call team?*
We are always looking for two kinds of writers:
A - Scribes who can develop deep substantive legal content that would impress Notorious RBG.
B - Magicians who can turn what A wrote into a business article a client could digest in minutes.
If you can perform one (or both) of the above feats, we want to hear from you.
Fill out the message form below and be sure to provide the following details. Be brief!!
1) Whether you are an "A," a "B," or both. (We'll ask you to prove it in a minute.)
2) Your strongest practice areas (not more than 5, please -- keep it real).
3) Number of hours per week (not necessarily consecutive) that you can be available on average.
4) The amount of notice you would need to spend up to 8 (consecutive) hours on one of our projects.
5)) The hourly rate you seek (a relatively narrow range is fine).
6) Links to up to 3 of your best writing samples (per A or B category).
7) A link to your CV.
*THE FINE PRINT
YOU'RE A LAWYER. READ IT.
We're like the Uber of legal writing, meaning simply that being a member of our on-call team does not mean you're our employee. Thought.Legal is not an employment agency. Being selected to work on a Thought.Legal project does not imply an employment relationship. Unless otherwise explicitly noted in an employment agreement duly executed by both parties, any work on Thought.Legal projects is conducted on an independent contractor basis. We are constantly seeking the very best writers to join our freelance pool, which we may also call our writing or editorial team without implying an employment relationship with you.
Next steps and what to expect. We will examine your responses to our 7 requests above to determine whether you might make a good addition to the short list. Only short-listed candidates will then be contacted for an interview (although we may first ask you to clarify or elaborate on the information you have submitted). Finalists after those interviews will then be asked to provide documentation of credentials and qualifications. Finally, selected writers will be asked to sign confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
Gig confidentiality options. We get it. You may be doing this for a short stint and don't want to give past or future law firm employers the wrong impression. Don't worry. We provide our clients "anonymized" profiles of our editorial pool members. While we need to share the general background of your impressive qualifications, we will not reveal your identity unless you give us permission. Thought.Legal writers may also request not to work on projects for specific law firms. HOWEVER, NO MOONLIGHTING! In order to prevent conflicts of interest, you may not be employed by a law firm while you are working on a Thought.Legal project.
